Do You Have Warts on Your Hands, Feet & Genitals?
How to Get Rid of Warts on Your Hands
• Salicylic Acid
In most cases, common warts can be easily cured with the help of simple home treatments and OTC products that you can find at local drugstores. The use of salicylic acid is claimed to treat hand warts effectively. Patches are also popularly used since they’re available in cream-colored shades, thus hiding your wart while curing it.
Search for a patch or solution with 17% salicylic acid that can peel off the infected skin. Before applying the product, soak the affected region in warm water for up to 15 minutes. Remove dead skin using pumice stone or nail file between treatments.
Be sure to be very careful not to touch the healthy skin around the wart since these products contain acid which can possibly damage or irritate healthy skin. Repeat the procedure on a regular basis.
• Duct Tape
Duct tape is a very convenient and cheap method that has been known to successfully eliminate hand warts. To apply this method, cover your wart firmly with duct tape for six days. Then on day 6, soak the infected region in warm water for around 20 minutes. Afterwards, rub the wart with a pumice stone or emery board.
Repeat this process for up to two months until the wart is removed. According to certain theories, researchers hypothesize that the duct tape technique helps in getting rid of warts by irritating the skin and triggering the immune system to attack the infection. Others also hypothesize that warts thrive in too much oxygen so the depletion of oxygen helps in killing off the virus. Whatever the case, the method proves effective, so use it!
How to Get Rid of Warts on Your Feet
Foot warts -- which are often plantar warts -- are noncancerous skin growths that typically appear on the soles of a person’s feet. Adults are usually the ones who get plantar warts.
These warts mostly develop beneath the feet’s pressure points such as the balls or heels. The pressure tends to push the plantar wart to grow inward beneath a thick skin layer. Although most plantar warts are not really a threat to your health, they can be painful and troublesome.
• Salicylic Acid... Again
Same as with hand warts, salicylic acid also works well to get rid of warts on feet. Nonprescription salicylic acid wart medications can be bought in liquid or patches. These can peel off the infected skin progressively.
When applying this medication, wash the affected region thoroughly. Then, soak the wart in warm water for 10-20 minutes. Next, remove dead tissues with your emery board or pumice stone. Be sure to be very careful and gentle.
Lastly, apply the patch or solution. Typically, you can replace the patches every 48 hours. Liquid applications, on the other hand, can be used twice daily. Repeat this procedure for a few weeks for complete wart removal.
• Freezing/Cryotherapy Products
These products can eliminate warts by freezing them. You can buy freezing products without a prescription from local stores or even online. The treatment simulates the cryotherapy performed at the doctor’s office by freezing tissue at a certain temperature. All you really have to do is follow the instructions and the wart will be removed after a few treatments.
How to Get Rid of Warts on Your Genitals
Genital warts are transmitted through sexual intercourse and they appear on/around the genital or anal areas. In most cases, the warts appear too small to be noticeable. When treating genital warts, don’t use OTC removers as these may often add more pain and irritation to the genital area. Here are specific medications you can apply to treat your genital warts.
• Podophyllin and Podofilox
Podophyllin is usually applied by a doctor to the affected genital region. This plant-based resin is capable of destroying the genital wart tissue. An alternative to this is podofilox which has the same active compound.
You can safely apply podofilox by yourself at home. Take note though, never apply it internally as it can damage the inner genital region. You can let your doctor perform the initial application and then you can do the next procedures on your own. It’s important to be very careful to avoid irritating the skin around the genital wart.
This anti wart medications are obtained via prescription, so a trip to the doctor will be necessary. Sorry, but it's the truth.
